Marketing vs Non-Marketing contacts
Marketing vs non-marketing contacts can apply to existing HubSpot CRM contacts or when importing new contacts.
This is the best guide from Hubspot to help get set up in general: Set contacts as 'marketing'
Best method being: a brand new fresh database import, the process is a little easier - here's the process:
- To Split the import for non & marketing contacts, follow the same process for standard import when importing contacts but in the XL/CSV etc file you import, mark a field for 'marketing status' and set those as 'marketing contacts' or 'non-marketing contacts'.
- a checkbox will appear during the process so indicate you will leverage the features around those contacts
- To set the contacts in the import file as marketing contacts, select the 'Set all contacts' as marketing contacts checkbox. Their Marketing status property will be set as Yes.
- To set the contacts in the import file as non-marketing contacts, leave the 'Set all contacts as marketing contacts' checkbox blank. Their Marketing status property will be set as No.

Once you've imported you can view the breakdown of MC and non-MC in USAGE & LIMITS in Account & Billing.
How do we set up Hubspot for partitioning for Enterprise level clients using teams/partitioning? and, would they need different subscription preference pages?-
You want to ensure you have a client blueprint across all contact capture for example; forms (there's a setting to tag non-MC/MC).
- You can also use Workflows to help with automatic property updates. One thing to also note is that integrations will tag contacts as non-MC by default.
